Here as promised is the necklace I made using the lampwork beads from Twiggy’s Rattlesnake Ranch Studio.
Driving home from her studio I knew I wanted a cream-coloured base — luckily I had just the shade I needed in my stash. The actual design took several tries. My first ideas were too fancy & frilly and detracted from the lampwork. The second design was too understated and didn’t enhance the focal arrangement. Why wouldn’t the dang design come together?
When this happens it’s best to just play with some beads and forget about trying to force the design. So I did just that. Happily within a few minutes I began to see the possibility of combining elements of both ideas into one.
After that the major piece of the necklace came together quite quickly. Then came the next decision: How do I finish it off? While the clasp is at the back and often doesn’t show, I’ve learned that it can — and perhaps should? — be just as attractive as the front.
So I set the necklace aside, got out some extra thread, some beads and began to try different ideas. It took a couple of days of off-and-on experiments to find a design I liked. In the process I also came up with a couple of ideas for some unfinished pieces I have, so the “play time” has paid off nicely!
